Ventilation in all properties and buildings are an integral part of the build and design. Well designed ventilation in your building and property can benefit your health, protecting occupants from respiratory infections, allergies & other health issues, it can also remove pollutants, moisture & other contaminants from the building. It can also improve odour's and the build up of moisture, condensation and subsequently mould.
We very often work in poorly ventilated Regency, Victorian & Edwardian era buildings where mould, condensation and alike are a constant battle within the buildings. These buildings are prone to damp within the air of the properties where mould build up is an on-going battle for both owners & tenants.
An solution to these issues can be part solved by installing a good ventilation system, especially in rooms containing a bath and or shower where even if an extract fan has been installed, may not be sufficient enough for the size of the room. It is highly recommended that bath and shower rooms in existing properties have ventilation within the rooms to extract moisture in the air, whereas this is a requirement in new buildings, older buildings did not have these which can cause major issues.
In other areas of the property a positive input ventilation system (PIV) or a mechanical extract ventilation system (MEV), which can incorporate heat recovery (HR) combined (MVHR) system can work wonders at eliminating mould and providing better air quality, reducing health issues, moisture build up, condensation, the use of chemicals and the need to re-decorate in the areas.
There are different types of ventilation systems available, the images adjacent are for a wall mounted PIV installation we completed, installing 2x separate PIV units into a bedroom & lounge in a basement property in central Brighton. The property was constantly getting a build up of mould a damp, these PIV units helped combat the issue and the mould and moisture has now dissipated.
Below is a loft installed PIV unit improving the indoor air quality and reducing condensation within the building by bringing fresh air into the home from the loft.
